Connecting your domain to your Shopify store - for those who did not purchase your domain from Shopify.
Once you have purchased the domain from a hosting company such as Float Hosting, GoDaddy, Namecheap, Bluehost, etc., follow the steps mentioned below to connect your Shopify store to your domain hosting account.
- Log into your Shopify store admin panel.
- Expand Online Store on the left menu.
- Click on Domains.
- Click Connect existing domain option mentioned just below the Domains.
- On the Connect existing domain page, enter your domain and click the Next button.
- Click on the Verify connection button and wait for a few minutes.
- You will be displayed with the following message.
- To fix this, log into your domain hosting account. Click DOMAINS on the home page or where ever it is located with your hosting organization.
NOTE: this will vary across the different hosting organizations. If you need assistance, please refer to the Support Desk of your hosting organization.
- Click on the manage icon next to your domain.
NOTE: The example below is from Float Hosting. DO NOT expect your own hosting organization to look the same.
- Click DNS Management.
- Enter the value for A as mentioned in the error message in step #7. Enter domain name in the Host Name field.Click Save Changes.
- Now enter the value for CNAME as mentioned in the error message in step #7. CNAME is the URL of your shopify store excluding “https://”. Enter domain name in the Host Name field.Click Save Changes.
Note: The Host name for A Record is the domain name. For example: "domainname.com". The Host Name for CNAME is the domain name appended with www. For example: www.domainname.com.
- Now log into your Shopify store admin again. Repeat the steps #2 - #6. Upon successful configuration, you will get the following message. The status of the domain will appear as Connected.
Note: If you face any issues during Shopify name-server setup, please send a direct email to your hosting organization Support Desk. They will resolve your issue ASAP.
